Why not emphasize your longer legs? Even though you may not achieve the ‘perfect’ 1/3-2/3 silhouette, that is not the goal. The goal is to create a look that makes you feel good. Even it’s leaning more towards 1/4/3/4 that can actually be very fashionable but more likely you’ll be somewhere in between. By highlighting your natural waist (by either tucking tops in or have them only slightly longer than your natural waist), you will create structure and will appear taller. I am a very short-waisted petite. (If I wore petite ultra low rise jans and still lowered the waist by about 3-4 inches, I would acheive the 1/3-2/3 proportions. This makes all my clothes look boxy and my figure look very rectangular, even with untucked tops.) The sections you have for petites give advice to women with short legs. What advice do you have for short-waisted petites to achieve a more tailored and less casual look?

I found the stores in Spain a few years ago. Each time I travel from the states. I look for the store. I have 3 jackets and everybody wants to know where did I get them. Stylish and reasonable prices. I’m back in Spain in April and can’t wait to see what is offered.

I agree Terri. I have been overweight my entire life and not due to any medical conditions – completely healthy. I consider myself a classic dresser and know how to dress my body. I receive compliments all the time on my appearance. It’s interesting that the younger generation is becoming more accepting of all body types where as women over 40 are much more critical of those who do not look a certain way or what society has deemed attractive and it’s unfortunate. I am anything but frumpy and proud of how I carry myself in the world.

hiii Sylvia ! Enjoyed reading your article . I am 42 . I am slightly bulging at the hip ~ otherwise I am tall and not over weight . What kind of jeans would suit me ? I wear tops that cover my hip…mostly …thanks a ton !

I don’t bother to hem my jeans anymore. I just tuck the excess under (being height challenged, there is plenty to work with) which means I can team the same jeans with sneakers or high heels depending on the occasion.

One exception to these rules concerns apple shaped women. I measure 35” in the hips and 31” in the waist. I am also very short waisted. Any jeans that go up to my waist will look like clown pants in the hips and thighs. I can ONLY wear low rise jeans and trousers. Yes, they create a bit of a muffin top, but because of my short torso I always wear overblouses and tunics. Otherwise, your suggestions are great..
