We live in Ohio and our parish requires the girls up to 17 being baptized at Easter vigil to wear the poofy,white short sleeve,top of the knees baptism dress and matching bonnet with the white tights and white patent leather shoes.A white tee shirt is required as the top under their dresses with the cloth diaper and rubberpants required under the tights.Our daughter was baptized at easter vigil last year when she was 16 and i sewed the gerber flat cloth diapers in the 24×27 inch size together to make her diaper and then got her the adult size rubberpants to go over it.The tights are supposed to be the high waist kind so as to completely cover their diaper and rubberpants,so i was lucky to find a high waist pair for her.Her tee shirt was tucked into the tights and i used small safety pins to pin the tights to the tee shirt,rather than pinning them to the rubberpants.

The problem I’m having as I age is the appearance of varicose veins. I’m finding it harder and harder to embrace wearing shorts in summer,, which makes me sad. I love when cool fall weather arrives and I can wear tights with a dress or skirt. I’m not sure sheer stockings would cover my veins enough. So frustrating!

“Nude tights”? Is that the same thing we used to call nylons? E.g. L’eggs?

To Clarice A.- Its the same at our parish also! The white camisole or undershirt is tucked into the waist band of the tights and then it is pinned to the top and the waist band of the rubberpants,that way the tights cannot slide down! Our daughter is 16 and being confirmed on Sept.22 and all of the girls have to wear the white,poofy floor length dress and veil with the tights and white patent leather shoes.All of the girls will have the cloth diaper and rubberpants under their tights and i will pin the waist band of her tights to her camisole and the rubberpants.

I would just opt for a more sheer version. Gray sheer tights are a softer option and usually look really nice.

HA! I tried that, Diane– suspenders! I used 1″ wide strong elastic yardage, and crossed the ‘straps’ in the back. I pinned them to the high-waist panty tights I have. It sort of works, and I have done this a few times, but I find that the little bit of loose skin I have in my rib cage just pushes up under the bra where the high waist leaves off!!!
I am in your age group, and I really thing we can just need to have a little humor about it and just throw away our skin-tight tops. That’s easier. LOL!

I feel burgundy opaque tights in the same color of the dress would look best and keeps you warm. Gray and black would work too but look nicest when they are more sheer although opaque is definitely an option too.
